You may not create commercial Projects, including any Project that crowdsources any portion of its funding, any Project that involves a business or legal entity, or any Project where you gate the content with a paywall (e.g., Patreon, YouTube Premium, etc.) without a written license agreement from us. TL DR - We allow passive ad revenue generation for some content, subscriptions and donations on streaming channels, and some commercial projects that comply with our API Terms and Policies and use a valid API key If we deny you the right to use our IP, you must stop developing, publishing, or distributing your Project immediately. We reserve the right to deny anyone the use of our IP at any time, for any reason or no reason, including when we decide, in our sole and absolute discretion, that you are using our IP inappropriately.

TL DR - Cool free stuff for the community to enjoy, with some exceptions.īy formal decree of the Demacian High Court (our legal team): on the condition that you follow all of the rules described in this policy (the “Rules”) and the Terms of Use, Riot Games (“Riot” or “We”) grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-sublicenseable, non-transferable, revocable, limited license for you to use, display and create derivative works based upon Riot’s IP, strictly for noncommercial (except as specifically provided below) community use. We’re generally on board with Projects that follow the rules outlined below, but we can still shut down any Project at any time if we decide it misinterprets these rules or uses our IP inappropriately. I’ve personally shown new champions to thousands of players before launch, and while I’m transitioning away from running player labs for new champions, the Champions team is dedicated to running these for each new and reworked champion at multiple stages of development.We love our players and the awesome stuff they create.

We try to stay in touch afterwards too as sometimes there are uh, lingering issues to be resolved post launch (*cough Irelia and Akali cough*). In the past we’ve had IreliaCarriesU (Irelia), Professor Akali (Akali), and Malicious Metal (Mordekaiser) give feedback on their champions. We also occasionally invite and fly out more well-known champion enthusiasts/one-tricks with large communities to give in-depth feedback on their champion if it’s receiving a VGU. To be eligible, you need to be an active League player, generally be sportsmanlike without any banned accounts (we had to… relax this requirement when bringing in Draven mains to playtest Kai’Sa ), and again we typically only grab players in the greater LA area. Travel makes it cost-prohibitive to open this up to any player, but we try to be aware of and deliberate with our sampling given this restriction. These players can be anyone who lives within the Southern California area, since that’s where our main headquarters are located. During champion development, we host several playtests or “player labs” where we bring in external players (non-Riot employees) to play the in-progress kit and give feedback on the visual and narrative concepts.
